ARSENAL supporter Piers Morgan has chosen Oleksandr Zinchenko the player of the season thus far for his club.

Zinchenko, 26, joined Arsenal for £32 million from Manchester City in the summer.

After joining the Emirates, he has established himself as Mikel Arteta’s first-choice left-back ahead of Kierney Tierney.

And he put on another show on Wednesday, slipping Bukayo Saka through to fire home the opener in a 4-0 win over Everton.

Arsenal now sits five points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

And Morgan believes Ukraine captain Zinchenko has been the team’s standout performer this season, just beating out Saka and captain Martin Odegaard.

In an interview with talkSPORT, he stated: “For the previous 18 years, my point has been that there have been so many weak links in the team. Arsenal would face bigger clubs like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Manchester City.

“There were always weaknesses in those starting XIs. I don’t see any weaknesses now. I just see a mixture of youth and experience, players who’ve got the right attitude now.

“The signings that were made in the close season – bringing Saliba back, [he] has been transformative with Gabriel.

“Getting Gabriel Jesus, although he’s been injured, imagine what it’ll be like when he’s back for the run in.

Zinchenko has been the player of the season for us, and possibly the Premier League, in my opinion, along with Saka and Odegaard.

“Pep Guardiola declared himself surplus to requirements. His heat map from last night is ridiculous. The guy was meant to be a left-back, but he was all over the place.”

Morgan went on to say: “Then there’s Partey, who was hugely vital when he came on, and Xhaka, who has gone from being booed off the field to becoming one of our key players.

“I remember the Wenger title winning teams and there were no weaknesses on the pitch and I feel that again.

“That’s why I’m excited about our chances of winning the league.

“We are up against City who have this amazingly deep squad, but I don’t think they are as good as they have been. I think we are as strong as we have been since 2004.”

Arsenal’s next match is at home against Bournemouth on Saturday.

They will next restart their Europa League campaign with a last-16 clash against Sporting Lisbon, followed by a trip to Fulham.
