“Potential Chelsea Move for £30m “Real Talent” Called “Dangerous” Could See Potter Secure His Own Carvajal”
Chelsea may have found their own Carvajal in Malo Gusto.
Chelsea have been among the most active clubs in the January transfer market thus far, and it would not be shocking if the club continues to conduct business until the window closes on Tuesday.
Joao Felix, David Fofana, Andrey Santos, Benoit Badiashile, 56 have all joined Chelsea this month to assist the club improve its terrible Premier League campaign.
The Blues are currently 10th in the Premier League table after 20 games, having collected only 29 points out of a possible 60, and manager Graham Potter will be hoping that the new additions will strengthen the team enough to help him climb the table into one of the top four Champions League qualifying spots.

Despite the plethora of new arrivals, the west Londoners are still linked with moves for Enzo Fernandez, Moises Caicedo, and Olympique Lyonnais right-back Malo Gusto, with the latter providing Potter with an opportunity to add depth to his right-back position.
The talented 19-year-old has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest talents, ranking in the top 20% of his positional peers in assists, shot-creating actions, passes attempted, passes completed, interceptions, and dribbles completed.
British journalist Bobby Vincent has lavished praise on the Lyon ace declaring him both a “great talent” and “dangerous” when putting out a scouting report recently. He stated:
“Malo Gusto is extremely harmful in the future. He’s speedy and agile, with a keen eye for a right-side cross. He’s also quite adept at defending one-on-one scenarios. He appears to be a natural talent.”
In fact, Potter may be able to sign his own Dani Carvajal, with the Real Madrid wonder selected as the most comparable player to Gusto during the last 12 months.
The two full-backs have several similarities in their season-to-date output, including assists (one v one), pass completion rate (https://spylax.com/category/transfers/), goal-creating actions (0.14 v 0.10), clearances (19 v 24), and shots total per 90 minutes (0.42 v 0.58), all via FBref – these show the great attacking attributes that could be highly valuable to Chelsea to maintain consistency with Reece James’ prowess on the right flank.
That being said, signing Gusto would be a great piece of business for the powers that be at Stamford Bridge if they can complete a deal before the window closes, and with a reported bid of £30m being prepared, it would provide Potter with some like-for-like depth in the right-back position without breaking the bank.
