In other news, Arsenal and their manager Mikel Arteta may need to reconsider their summer transfer strategies as Borussia Dortmund is reportedly preparing a significant offer for Julian Brandt, whom Arsenal had been targeting.
The German attacking midfielder has been linked with both Arsenal and their north London rivals Tottenham, but he may opt out of a move to the Premier League altogether. Brandt’s current contract with Dortmund will expire at the end of the next season, but the Bundesliga side is said to be preparing an “astronomical contract upgrade” to keep their star player. Nevertheless, German journalist Christian Falk has claimed that Arsenal remains interested in Brandt and is more prepared than ever to pursue him for Arteta’s squad next season.
“Now, it could be the time to make the next step and follow [Kai] Havertz to England. He hasn’t got one club in his head at the moment, but Arsenal are of course more interested than ever before.”
Julian Brandt has been in excellent form this season, scoring eight goals and providing four assists in the Bundesliga, making him one of Borussia Dortmund’s most valuable players as they compete with Bayern Munich for the title. The 26-year-old’s impressive performances in the second half of the season under the guidance of coach Edin Terzic have likely prompted Dortmund to offer him a lucrative new contract. The club may be looking to secure Brandt’s services long-term, particularly as they are expected to lose their star player Jude Bellingham this summer.
It is uncertain whether Julian Brandt would be open to extending his stay in Germany, as he has reportedly been dreaming of a move to England. However, if Arsenal manage to secure his signature ahead of Tottenham and Chelsea, he would likely have to compete with Martin Odegaard for the number 10 role. While Brandt is a versatile midfielder capable of playing in multiple positions, Arsenal’s squad depth may pose a challenge for him to break into the starting lineup.
Despite this, Brandt has been a long-term target for Arsenal, and he previously responded positively to their interest in 2021. He stated that while it was nice to receive interest from other clubs, he had no intentions of leaving Dortmund that year.
