Scott McTominay Reveals What Erik ten Hag Said to Him in Emotional Interview After Manchester United Heroics

Scott McTominay claims that Erik ten Hag told him to “go on and score” prior to his goal-scoring heroics for Manchester United.

The Scotland international substituted in against Brentford at Old Trafford when Manchester United trailed 1-0.
But McTominay was decisive as he scored twice in stoppage time to give United all three points and give Ten Hag a lifeline.

The Dutch manager, who endured chants of “you’re fired in the morning” from the visiting fans prior to the two goals, celebrated wildly when the Red Devils scored the game-winning goal in the 97th minute.

McTominay was visibly emotional after the match, but he was able to relay the simple instructions given to him by Ten Hag before coming on.

He remarked, “That was possibly one of my favorite moments on the football field. Two goals at the end of the game was incredible, but I am simply happy to be able to contribute and prove to others that I am capable.

“It was very loud, the fans were roaring us on so I couldn’t hear fully. He probably said something like: ‘Go on and score,’ which is what I did.”

Mathias Jensen scored United’s first goal of the match after a cacophony of defensive errors.

But Ten Hag made a series of bold decisions, such as substituting Casemiro at halftime and also Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount.

However, the former Ajax manager will feel vindicated as United’s late pressure resulted in a dramatic victory.
McTominay said the following about both of his goals: “When the ball dropped to me, it was at an awkward height, and I did not believe I would be able to get my leg there, control it, and score.

“As I said we wanted to get into their box more as the game went on.

“But they are a really good team, defended well, and are dangerous on the counter attack. Eventually, we got the goals.

“Just never give up no matter the situation. At this football club it is demanded that you never throw the towel in.

“For me I have been brought up here since I was five, I know that better than anyone.

“Everyone knows we are in a difficult period at the minute, but we have fighters in the group that want to keep going right until the end.

“It could have been anyone on that pitch scoring the two goals. Really pleased and hopefully we can build on that from here.

“Sometimes we feel like we are in our own bubble with people outside only saying negative things, but we just have to block that out and be better after the international break.”
