Manchester United need to move on from Maguire, Lindelof, McTominay and Elanga. These guys are Bolton Wanderers level of players.— Legit Ekiti Boy (@Tintedeyekay) March 2, 2023
“Shouldn’t be at this club”, “Not even good backup players” – after a 3-1 FA Cup victory over West Ham, Manchester United fans want the duo sold.
Manchester United defeated West Ham United 3-1 in the fifth round of the FA Cup at Old Trafford, scoring twice in the 90th minute. Fans have taken to Twitter to criticize Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay’s performances tonight (Thursday, March 1).
Manchester United would have been confident going into tonight’s game, having won the Carabao Cup on Sunday (February 26) with a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United.
Erik ten Hag, United’s manager, made many alterations to his starting lineup. Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof, Scott McTominay, and Marcel Sabitzer were all given chances to shine.
Manchester United, on the other hand, started hesitantly in the first half, with both keepers needing to make brilliant saves to keep the scores equal. Maguire and McTominay had little influence and were both booked before halftime. The midfield failed to press effectively, allowing West Ham to exploit pockets of space.
Ten Hag was forced to make an early substitution, putting on the in-form Casemiro in place of McTominay. Said Benrahma rifled the ball into the top corner to give the Hammers the lead in the 54th minute.

Casemiro appeared to have leveled for the home side in the 72nd minute, but he was whistled offside. With Nayef Aguerd’s own goal five minutes later, the score was equal.
Alejandro Garnacho and Fred scored in stoppage time to send the Red Devils into the FA Cup quarter-finals.
Manchester United fans were dissatisfied with the performances of Maguire and McTominay in particular, claiming the pair are no longer good enough to make the bench.
United will play Fulham in the FA Cup quarter-finals on March 18 at Old Trafford.
