Ten Hag expected to speak on shocking sacking of former assistant
Alfred Schreuder, Erik ten Hag’s successor, was fired by Ajax after only six months in charge.
Filling the shoes of the now-Manchester United manager was always going to be difficult, especially since so many players from his winning squad were sold before Schreuder’s first season began.
Aside from Lisandro Martinez and Antony, who both joined United, the club also sold or let go of Sebastian Haller, Ryan Gravenberch, Perr Schurrs, Nicolas Tagliafico, Andre Onana, Daley Blind, and Danilo.
In the space of a few months, at least seven of the regular starting XI left the club.

Ajax is currently fifth in the Eredivisie and only managed a draw against relegation contenders Volendam on Thursday, which proved to be the final straw.
The Dutch club’s CEO, former United keeper Edwin van der Sar said “It is a painful decision, but also a necessary one. We lost an unnecessary number of points after a strong start to the season. The game was also tense.”
Schreuder was Ten Hag’s assistant for 18 months before taking over as manager of German club Hoffenheim, before moving on to work as an assistant manager at FC Barcelona and, most recently, as manager of Club Brugge.
With Schreuder’s deputy, Matthias Kaltenbach, also fired, it is unclear who will take charge of Ajax’s next game.
Ten Hag is expected to be asked about the events later today during a press conference.
Ajax also exited the Champions League this season in a group dominated by Napoli and Liverpool.
They will compete in the Europa League play-offs against Union Berlin in order to continue their European adventure in that competition. In that regard, they have a much easier draw than Manchester United, who have been paired with FC Barcelona.
If both clubs advance, they may meet in the tournament for the first time since the 2017 final, which United won 2-0.
