Sold to: RB Leipzig in 2021/2022 season

The Spaniard endured a frustrating spell after joining City in 2013. He was loaned out four times before being sold to PSV Eindhoven in 2018. Just a year later City triggered a buy-back clause but after a brief stay in the first team he was loaned back out to RB Leipzig before joining them permanently in summer 2021.

Wilfried Bony

Sold to: Swansea in 2017/2018 season

After an impressive season-and-a-half for Swansea, Bony was a surprise arrival at City in January 2015. He flattered to deceive, scoring just 10 in 46 and after a loan spell at Stoke he rejoined the Welsh side.

Claudio Bravo

Sold to: Real Betis in 2020/2021 season

Goalkeeper Bravo arrived from Barcelona having lifted the Champions League with the Spanish side. He made just 29 league appearances in four seasons and was mostly restricted to cup outings with Ederson’s arrival in 2017 bumping him down the pecking order.

Willy Caballero

Sold to: Chelsea in 2017/2018 season

The Argentine was another goalkeeper who made only a clutch of appearances during his three-year stay. Mostly second fiddle to Joe Hart, more than half of Caballero’s 48 games came in cup competitions.

Bersant Celina

Sold to: Swansea in 2018/2019 season

The Kosovo international played four games in the 2015/16 campaign, three as a sub. After loans at Twente and Ipswich he was sold to Swansea before French side Dijon purchased him in 2020.

Sold to: Basaksehir in 2017/2018 season

Six years at the Etihad saw Clichy win two Premier League titles and two League Cups.

Edin Dzeko

Sold to: Roma in 2016/2017 season

The Bosnian was a hugely popular figure in his five years at City, helping them win two Premier Leagues, an FA Cup and League Cup. He scored 50 PL goals and is still operating at the top level, now with Inter Milan.

CJ Egan-Riley

Sold to: Burnley in 2022/2023 season

The centre-half made three senior outings last season before City sold him to Burnley in the summer.

Sold to: Athletico Paranaense in 2022/2023 season

Another who will go down in City folklore, the Brazilian called time on nine trophy-laden years at the club at the end of last season.

Sold to: Galatasaray in 2017/2018 season

The tough-tackling midfielder made a century of outings in three years before moving to Turkey and is now with Sevilla.

Manu Garcia

Sold to: Sporting Gijon in 2019/2020 season

The Spanish midfielder made one cameo league outing in 2016. He’s now at Greek side Aris.

Joe Hart

Sold to: Burnley in 2018/2019 season

One of the few links between the ‘old’ City and the new era, goalkeeper Hart will always be fondly remembered at the Etihad. He spent 12 successful years at the club and made well over 300 appearances. After spells at Burnley and Spurs, he’s now No.1 at Celtic.

Kelechi Iheanacho

Sold to: Leicester in 2017/2018 season

Striker Iheanacho had a pretty impressive strike rate of 12 goals in 46 league games before City sold him to Leicester for £25m in 2017. Now in his sixth season with the Foxes.

Aleksandr Kolarov

Sold to: Roma in 2017/2018 season

The Serb was a Premier League regular during seven years at the Etihad, with a penchant for scoring from free-kicks. Moved to Italy with first Roma and then Inter. Retired this summer.

Vincent Kompany

Sold to: Anderlecht in 2019/2020 season

Another City legend, Kompany lifted 12 trophies in 11 years with the club. In 2021 he had the honour of a statue of himself being unveiled by the club. Now manager at Championship side Burnley.

Pablo Maffeo

Sold to: Stuttgart in 2018/2019 season

The Spanish defender made three appearances for City in the first half of the 2016/17 season, starting the 1-0 loss to Man United in an EFL Cup tie and the 1-1 draw with Celtic in the Champions League. Now at Real Mallorca.

Eliaquim Mangala

Sold to: Valencia in 2019/2020 season

Arijanet Muric

The back-up goalkeeper was loaned out five times by City and made just a handful of outings for his parent club, all in cup competitions. Joined up with Kompany at Turf Moor this summer.

Made a handful of outings in the 2018/19 season but was then loaned out numerous times before joining Wolfsburg in 2021.

An extremely brief stay at the Etihad for the Spaniard who scored six in 30 before returning to Spain after just a season. Now at Ibiza.

Nicolas Otamendi

Sold to: Benfica in 2020/2021 season

Another centre-half who never quite convinced City fans. The glove-wearing Argentine was a regular over five seasons but is now in Portugal.

Patrick Roberts

Sold to: Sunderland in 2021/2022 season

Roberts was hailed as a wonderkid after being poached from Fulham in 2015 but he made just three outings and was loaned out a whopping six times. Looks to have finally found a home on Wearside.

Bacary Sagna

Sold to: Released in 2017/2018 season

The right-back spent three seasons at City but only had a League Cup win to show for it. He was unfortunate in that his stint coincided with the club’s only period of not winning a Premier League title.

Sold to: Feyenoord in 2021/2022 season

Cup outings against Rotherham and Burton represent his only senior action for the club. Now back in the Netherlands with NEC Nijmegen.

Leroy Sane

Sold to: Bayern Munich in 2020/2021 season

Had a big impact at City after a £37m move from Schalke. Given his importance to the side, it was a surprise when Guardiola sold him to Bayern in the summer of 2020. Still a key player for the Bundesliga giants.

David Silva

Sold to: Real Sociedad in 2020/2021 season

Another of the City icons lucky enough to have had a statue made. Silva was a mercurial genius who sprinkled his magic at the Etihad for a decade. Now 36, still plying his trade in La Liga with Sociedad.

Raheem Sterling

Sold to: Chelsea in 2022/2023 season

Many questioned City’s decision to spend almost £50m on Sterling back in 2015 but he justified it with extraordinary scoring stats down the years, hitting double figures in five of seven years. Now at PL rivals Chelsea.

Ferran Torres

Sold to: Barcelona in 2021/2022 season

Torres spent barely 18 months at City having arrived from Valencia. He contributed to the 2020/21 Premier League title win but after just four league games of the next season he left for Barca with City netting a sizeable profit on what they paid for him.

Yaya Toure

Sold to: Released in 2018/2019 season
