The Mind-Bending Nightmare: Klopp’s Liverpool Set to Face Wolves with a Shocking Absence of Five Crucial Players
Darwin Nunez’s fitness will be assessed by Liverpool ahead of Wolverhampton Wanderers’ visit to Anfield on Wednesday night.
Nunez, a Uruguayan forward, missed Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Crystal Palace on Saturday due to a back issue that flared up in the build-up. Defender Joe Gomez also missed the clash at Selhurst Park due to an unexplained injury sustained in Liverpool’s 5-2 Champions League defeat to Real Madrid last week.
“They are both injured,” Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told Sky Sports at the weekend. “So, Darwin had the shoulder problem from the Newcastle game.
“ [It] worked out for the Real Madrid game but then got another knock there, felt it again and more so there was no chance for today. Hopefully he can be [back] in midweek again.”
Thiago Alcantara (hip) and Luis Diaz (ankle) are now unavailable for Liverpool (knee). Thiago hasn’t played for Liverpool since their 3-0 loss to Wolves on February 4, and Diaz is out with a long-term injury.
Ibrahima Konate is close to returning to Liverpool after participating in a few recent training sessions. A hamstring issue has kept the French defender out for a month.
Klopp stated prior to the Crystal Palace match: “Ibou is near. Two sessions after a long injury. We can see when boys come on they are not at their best at the moment. We’re not even sure if all the boys can play again because of knocks. We have to make changes.”
