The move for the 37-cap star by Manchester United was ‘90% done’ at Old Trafford.

The move for the 37-cap star by Manchester United was ‘90% done’ at Old Trafford.

Fabrizio Romano exposes how close United were to signing Rabiot previously and why the deal fell through at the last minute.

Manchester United were ‘90% done’ with the transfer of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot, according to Fabrizio Romano of GIVEMESPORT.

United are apparently interested in signing the French international, who has 37 caps and was instrumental in his country’s run to the World Cup final in 2022.

Adrien Rabiot is the most recent Manchester United transfer news.

According to the French daily L’Equipe, Manchester United will pursue Rabiot again this summer. The midfielder’s contract is set to expire at the end of June, making him a free agent for Erik ten Hag.

Rabiot’s form has also improved significantly this season, with 11 goals in 44 appearances (all competitions) representing an outstanding return for the 28-year-old. According to 90min, the player has already stated that he might still sign a contract extension with the Italian giants, but given the uncertainty surrounding the club regarding a potential points loss for incorrect accounting, it would be no surprise if Rabiot decided to leave.

Especially if Juventus is denied access to the Champions League as a result of any verdict.

What did Romano have to say about Manchester United and Rabiot?

Manchester United wanted him on a loan deal with a buy option, and it was almost done,”   It was 90% completed when the deal fell through due to personal terms. It was quite advanced between the clubs, Manchester United and Juventus.”

Would Rabiot be a good addition to Manchester United’s squad?

Missing out on Rabiot in the past may have been a blessing in disguise, given the player’s history of off-field shenanigans, including entering a nightclub following PSG’s 3-1 Champions League round-of-16 loss to United in 2019. At that point, signing Rabiot would have most certainly caused more issues than he addressed.

To his credit, Rabiot appears to have developed as a player and has been a remarkably consistent performer for Juventus this season, despite the fact that the squad has not been at its best under Massimiliano Allegri. This contrasts sharply with his final months at PSG, where he trained with the reserve team.

As a result, Rabiot would be a wise acquisition for ten Hag. He can play a number of midfield roles and would provide United with a high-quality ‘8’ to play alongside Casemiro, which the team has badly missed this season.
