The Vital Return: Granit Xhaka on the Crucial Importance of the 25-Year-Old Star to Arsenal Squad

Granit Xhaka, an Arsenal midfielder, discussed the upcoming return of Gabriel Jesus to the team. The Brazilian forward, who was purchased from Manchester City in the summer, suffered a knee injury during the 2022 FIFA World Cup and had surgery. He has not played since then.

Jesus has contributed five goals and seven assists in 20 games for Arsenal in various competitions. He is getting closer to being back in action and has begun training with the rest of the team.

When asked about Gabriel Jesus’ comeback, Xhaka emphasized the significance of his return to the team, especially since Eddie Nketiah and Leandro Trossard are also currently sidelined with injuries. Xhaka stated that Jesus’ presence would be beneficial to the team, suggesting that he can provide some much-needed depth and support.

“Because we lost Eddie as well, it’s much more important to have Gabi back, Leo as well is injured and he can play in this position. Step by step, I hope that Gabi will be 100% fit to help this team because we know that he can help us. With his attitude, with his personality, he is very, very important for us.”

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta recently spoke about Jesus’ return as well. He said (via Evening Standard):

“We will try not to rush him back, We will try to make a fair assessment between what he needs and when is comfortable and as well giving the team a boost that it’s going to need in the next few weeks for sure. Everything is going well.”

Prior to his injury, Gabriel Jesus played a vital role in Arsenal’s performance by contributing significantly to their attack and build-up play. With Arsenal competing against Manchester City for the Premier League title, fans will be hoping that Jesus can have a similar impact upon his return to the team.

Following Arsenal’s 2-2 draw with Sporting CP in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League Round of 16 match, Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, spoke about Ruben Amorim, Sporting CP’s manager. In the game, William Saliba opened the scoring for Arsenal, but Goncalo Inacio equalized for Sporting CP. The hosts took the lead in the 55th minute through Paulinho, but Hidemasa Morita scored an own goal to level the score again.

Mikel Arteta was quizzed about his counterpart Ruben Amorim after the game. Much like Arteta, Amorim is another top young manager.

“What I said before the game is that I really like him. I think what he and the coaches have done over the last few years is remarkable and they are a really good team, so obviously credit to the manager because you can see that he has a really clear idea.”
