The worst VAR mistake of the season so far; The VAR referee called out for adaption

Mike Dean, the VAR referee, has been chastised for making the greatest error in Premier League history. Meanwhile, the Premier League is in the middle of its season, and some VAR judgments have been exceedingly controversial.

Marcus Rashford’s equalizer against Manchester City was one of those contentious calls that favored Manchester United. Meanwhile, the Red Devils went on to win the derby by a score of 2:1.

Rashford’s goal, however, was not dubbed the greatest referee error of the season. Rashford appeared to be offside. The officials, though, determined that Rashford was not interfering with the game.

This decision sparked controversy and the football pundits certainly have split opinions.

THE REFEREE’S WORST MISTAKE THIS SEASON SO FAR

The contentious judgment in the Manchester derby between Manchester City and Manchester United has been one of the season’s talking points. Meanwhile, former players and fans are sure that the decision was incorrect, but past referees supported it.

However, this is not the first time that fans are dissatisfied with the officials’ decisions. According to veteran referee Graham Poll, not sending off Cristian Romero in the game against Chelsea was the worst decision of the season.

The Tottenham Hotspur defender was spotted yanking Marc Cucurella’s hair at a corner, but VAR did not intervene. Poll revealed in an interview with Casinos EnLigne that  “Cristian Romero pulling Marc Cucurella’s hair going unpunished.”

To me that was one of the most obvious red cards you’ll see. Anthony Taylor was refereeing and didn’t see it. Mike Dean was the VAR official and I know he’s since said I got it wrong and said I’m sorry, but that’s not good enough.“

For me Romero should have been sent off.“

“He was involved in too many incidents which were highlighted by the Sky Sports commentary team saying ‘he could be off here and if not this time he’s got to go next time.“

“He then made another two or three clear fouls and he was very lucky to stay in the pitch in my view. However because Arsenal won 2-0 the Arsenal fans don’t care and that’s how a referee can get lucky.”

Meanwhile, with some of these contentious judgments being made in the middle of the season, it will be interesting to observe how these decisions affect the teams for the rest of the season.
