Training Ground Altercation Involving Man Utd Star Creates Transfer Challenge for Erik ten Hag.
Turkish club Besiktas is reportedly considering a loan deal for Manchester United midfielder Hannibal Mejbri after their attempt to sign him permanently was rejected. The two clubs have been in negotiations following Eric Bailly’s permanent move to Besiktas, and they are now looking to strengthen their squad further by targeting Hannibal. The Turkish transfer window is still open, providing an opportunity for the loan move.
Hannibal spent the previous season on loan at Birmingham City, where he made 41 appearances and scored one goal. Despite interest from other clubs, the 20-year-old midfielder has remained at Manchester United, as the club has resisted offers for a permanent transfer.
In the summer, Borussia Dortmund had expressed interest in signing Hannibal, and Besiktas had offered a loan deal with an option to buy, which was rejected by Manchester United. Now, Besiktas is reportedly planning to return with a loan offer that does not include an option to buy.
Hannibal has not featured in any of Manchester United’s four Premier League games this season, even though there have been player absences. The arrival of Sofyan Amrabat has added to the competition for places in Erik ten Hag’s squad. Hannibal was an unused substitute in a recent match against Arsenal.
Besiktas manager Senol Gunes is reportedly seeking an attacking midfielder and believes that Hannibal would be a suitable addition. A loan deal would allow Manchester United to reduce their wage bill without weakening their starting lineup, but the final decision rests with Ten Hag.
It’s worth noting that Hannibal was involved in a training ground altercation with Alex Telles in May of the previous year, just before Ten Hag took over as Manchester United’s manager. This incident occurred following a 4-0 defeat to Brighton when the team’s morale was low.
Hannibal has represented the Tunisian senior national team 26 times. He joined Manchester United from Monaco in 2019 and has made three senior appearances for the club, including starting in the final match of the 2021/22 season, which ended in defeat to Crystal Palace. Manchester United recently acquired Mason Mount from Chelsea, and Scott McTominay remains at the club despite transfer interest from West Ham.
