Varane Expresses True Feelings on Partnering with Jonny Evans in Man Utd Defense
Raphael Varane, the Manchester United star, was recognized as the Player of the Match for his exceptional performance against Liverpool. Varane emphasized the importance of his partnership with Jonny Evans in maintaining defensive solidity during the 0-0 draw at Anfield.

Despite expectations of Liverpool dominating, the defensive duo, along with the entire United team, thwarted the Reds’ attack, earning praise for their resilience. Varane’s inclusion in the starting XI under Erik ten Hag was credited as a crucial factor, with the French defender leading by example and contributing to the team’s defensive strength. Despite receiving individual accolades, Varane shared credit on his Instagram story, acknowledging it as a collective team effort.

In the aftermath of their Anfield performance, Varane’s partnership with Evans drew attention, dispelling doubts about Evans’ one-year deal with United.

Despite ongoing transfer rumors linking Varane away from Manchester United, with reported efforts to attract interest from clubs like his former team Real Madrid, Ten Hag commended Varane’s performance against Liverpool.

The manager acknowledged Varane’s capabilities and highlighted the collaborative effort of the entire team, including the partnership with Jonny Evans and the contribution of Andre Onana in goal.

Ten Hag emphasized the team’s collective performance in securing a commendable result against Liverpool.

The Frenchman’s existing deal expires at the end of the season after United incorrectly stated his contract ran until 2025 when he signed for the club. Varane is therefore free to sign a pre-contract agreement with non-English clubs from January 1st. But John Murtough, United’s football director, was in Saudi Arabia earlier this month to drum up interest in the likes of Varane, Casemiro, Anthony Martial and Jadon Sancho.

But the Manchester Evening News say Varane doesn’t want to move to the Middle East and wants the club to trigger a 12-month extension clause in his deal. Varane has been ostracised this season, with Erik ten Hag preferring Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Jonny Evans.

The Dutchman has denied there’s been a falling out with Varane, but he failed to start in 13 consecutive matches over October and November. That was before the 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich last week and the goalless draw at Anfield.

Varane was named Man of the Match for his performance at Anfield, when he played as left centre-back. That’s despite Ten Hag claiming he was overlooking Varane in recent weeks because of his inability to play at left centre-back.
