Why Manchester City’s wont get a Sleeve Badge if They Win the Champions League
If Manchester City wins the Champions League, will they be given a sleeve badge? Many people have inquired after a tweet went viral on Twitter.
Some Manchester City fans appear to believe that if Pep Guardiola’s team defeats Inter Milan in Istanbul, their shirt for the 2023/24 season will have a UEFA badge of honor.
So, let us look at why Manchester City will not receive a sleeve badge if they win the Champions League…
Why Manchester City will not receive a Champions League sleeve badge if they win the competition
Well, a photoshopped image of Manchester City’s kit for next season – complete with UEFA’s badge of honor – just went popular on Twitter, with nearly 20 million people viewing the post so far.
For those who are unfamiliar with UEFA’s badge of honor, it is essentially a sleeve patch depicting the UEFA Champions League trophy along with the number of times a team has won the championship.
Real Madrid, as seen below, gets to wear it when they compete in the UEFA Champions League.
So, if Manchester City wins the UEFA Champions League in June, why will they not receive a comparable sleeve badge?
Simply put, only those who have won the competition five times – or three times in a row – are eligible to wear the UEFA badge of honour, as explained on the UEFA website.
So far in the competition’s history, only Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Ajax, and Barcelona have unlocked access to UEFA’s badge of honour.
As a result, the viral photoshop of Manchester City’s kit for next season – shown below – will not have the insignia visible on the left sleeve.

Nonetheless, if the Citizens continue to play as they have under Guardiola, it won’t be long before they join Real Madrid, AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Liverpool, Ajax, and Barcelona in donning UEFA’s badge of honor.
